Welcome to my About Jewelry page!

I create my Eggshell Jewelry, using the technique developed and taught by egg artist Jane Pollak.

For the eggshell jewelry, I prefer to work with the egg shell of an ostrich or a domestic goose. I use the same batik process described here to make a design on the egg shell - although, for the jewelry, I work in small single pieces of the egg shell instead of the whole egg.

After the design is finished, I fill the backs with a clear hard bartop epoxy. Next the piece is shaped and smoothed with a rotary sander. The front is then coated with the same epoxy - a thin coat, so the texture of the shell surface is not filled.

The finished pieces are now ready to be fashioned into jewelry. The whole process takes many weeks to complete.

My eggshell jewelry is fairly sturdy and would be difficult to break or damage with normal wear, although I do not recommend letting it get wet.

Design inspiration comes from many sources. Quilt patterns, Ukrainian pysanky designs, ethnic motifs, favorite subjects and, of course, Mother Nature.

So, if the pictures are done loading, have a look and see what I do . . . .

A mixture of semi-finished goose and ostrich shell pieces. The design has been dyed into a section of shell, and the backs are ready to be filled with epoxy.

The finished jewelry!
Settings, chains, and all other findings are either Sterling Silver or Gold Filled.

If you have any questions, or would like more details about the process, you're welcome to contact me. I'm always happy to talk about my work!
